Melanotan I (MT-1) is a synthetic linear peptide analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that selectively binds to the MC1R melanocortin receptor. Research suggests MT-1 stimulates melanin production in the skin, enhancing pigmentation and providing photoprotective benefits against UV radiation. Unlike MT-2, which acts broadly on multiple melanocortin receptors, MT-1 demonstrates more selective activity, making it primarily studied in contexts of pigmentation and skin protection.
