BPC-157
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide, a chain of 15 amino acids, derived from a sequence found in a protein in gastric juice (“body protection compound”). It is one of the most widely studied research peptides in preclinical literature, with a large body of rodent and cell-culture work published since the early 1990s.

What researchers study
Most published BPC-157 research comes from animal and in-vitro models. Areas of investigation include:
- Tendon and fibroblast biology: rat Achilles tendon explants and cultured tendon fibroblasts, looking at outgrowth, cell survival under oxidative stress, cell migration, and FAK-paxillin signaling.
- Blood vessels and angiogenesis: animal vascular-injury models and endothelial cell (HUVEC) assays measuring proliferation, migration and tube formation, with attention to nitric oxide and VEGF pathways.
- Gut-brain axis: rodent studies of the gastrointestinal tract and its links to serotonin and dopamine systems.
- Wound models: alkali-burn and other tissue-injury models in rats.
A 2025 systematic review of the musculoskeletal literature found that the evidence is almost entirely preclinical and reported that no clinical safety data were found. Results from animal and cell models do not establish effects in humans.
Regulatory status
BPC-157 is not approved by the FDA for any use. It has been on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List under S0 (non-approved substances) since 2022. It is sold here as a research reagent only.
